a situation that occurs when a) first base is empty or there are two outs, and b) a third strike touches the dirt before being caught, or the ball is dropped after being caught; the batter immediately becomes a runner and the catcher must throw out the runner or be charged with an error.no runner on first base or with two outs; the ball is considered dropped if it touches the dirt before being caught, or if the ball is dropped after being caught; On a uncaught third strike with no runner on first base or with two outs, the batter immediately becomes a runner.
